Bringing a pet to Thailand from Sweden

For a Sweden-origin move, ask Jordbruksverket to confirm the current export-document and official-veterinarian process for Thailand. Obtain the case-specific Thai AQS sequence in writing and plan any EU return separately.

Before booking, confirm current requirements with the Thai DLD, your airline and the origin-country authority.

Source check details

The regulated claims and authority links cited on this page were checked on 5 August 2026. Thailand's Department of Livestock Development, airlines and origin-country authorities change their rules without notice. Treat this as orientation, then confirm every current requirement with the DLD, your airline and your origin-country authority before you book or travel.

The Swedish side of the paperwork

Ask Jordbruksverket which export or health certificate applies to a dog or cat travelling from Sweden to Thailand, who may complete it, whether authority endorsement is required and how long the document remains valid.

The blue EU pet passport you use within Europe is not a substitute for the Thailand-route documents confirmed by the origin authority and Thai AQS. Keep the same animal identifier on every record.

Use a vet experienced in export work — not every practice handles third-country certificates daily.

Documents Thailand expects

Use the responsible AQS’s written instructions for these route-specific document categories:

DocumentWhat it is
DLD import permitObtain the responsible arrival AQS’s written sequence, intake method and lead time for this origin before booking. The cited guide’s detailed timing is USA-origin only and is not used here as this route’s deadline. USA-scoped Thai source
Microchip certificateImplantation certificate with the identifier matching every record. The reviewed Thai source does not establish a universal ISO-format or chip-before-vaccination rule.
Vaccination recordsKeep every required vaccination current and submit the full history. Ask the responsible AQS for any origin-specific wait before filing; this page does not copy the USA-only deadline. See our vaccination guide.
Government-endorsed health certificateExport certificate from the origin country, endorsed as that authority requires.
Flight bookingItinerary; confirm airline pet policy early.

For the reviewed USA-origin route, the importer presents the animal and original documents for AQS inspection and the source says Forms R-6 and R-7 are issued there. It does not state a dependable release time or detention outcome for every route. Ask the responsible AQS what applies to the actual origin and itinerary. Arrival source and scope.

Planning the return to Sweden

Thailand is outside the current EU no-titer lists, so the standard return route from Thailand uses a valid rabies vaccination and a rabies titer test of at least 0.5 IU/ml. Sample at least 30 days after primary vaccination or within a current valid series, and at least 90 days before the animal health certificate is issued. EU authorities publish an exception for a satisfactory test completed and recorded before leaving, subject to vaccination-continuity and documentation conditions; confirm those conditions before relying on it. Commission titer rule.

Sweden does not apply the special tapeworm-treatment rule that a few countries keep, but always reconfirm the current EU re-entry requirements with Jordbruksverket before you travel. See exporting a pet to Sweden.

Confirm the Thai requirement for this origin

The reviewed detailed Thai instruction is scoped to USA-origin dogs, cats and rabbits. Ask the responsible AQS whether this origin needs any additional test; the EU or Swiss return pathway is a separate rule.

Common mistakes on this corridor

  • Using the EU pet passport alone — it is for travel within the EU/EFTA pet-travel area, not export to Thailand.
  • Assuming a private-vet signature is enough — ask the origin authority to confirm the current certificate, official-veterinarian and endorsement process for Thailand.
  • DLD permit timing — obtain the member-state route’s vaccination sequence, intake channel and lead time from the responsible AQS; do not import the USA-only deadlines.
  • Skipping return planning — the current EU titer route puts at least 90 days between sampling and certificate issue.

After the AQS inspection — reaching Pattaya

For the reviewed USA-origin route, the importer presents the animal and original documents for AQS inspection and the source says Forms R-6 and R-7 are issued there. It does not publish a dependable inspection duration or guarantee same-day release. Arrival source and scope. After the AQS releases the animal, use a road vehicle that explicitly accepts the animal and crate. The reviewed DLD map does not list a U-Tapao/Rayong airport AQS, but absence from the map is not proof that no later case-specific service exists. Obtain written DLD confirmation before routing there. DLD AQS map.

Settling in Pattaya

Confirm pet-friendly housing, save a local veterinary contact and discuss heat and parasite prevention with a veterinarian. Keep every stamped AQS record. For a later UK or EU journey, check the destination’s titer rules. Australia instead requires an approved-country pathway under the standard non-approved-origin route. DAFF FAQ.

Frequently asked

Is my EU pet passport enough to bring my pet to Thailand?

No. The EU pet passport governs movement within the EU/EFTA area. Ask Jordbruksverket to confirm the current Sweden-origin certificate and endorsement process, and obtain the Thai AQS import sequence separately.

Which Swedish authority endorses the export certificate?

Jordbruksverket is the authority to ask which Sweden-origin document and official-veterinarian or endorsement process applies to the Thailand route. Confirm it directly before relying on a private vet’s signature.

What will Sweden need for the return journey?

The standard route uses a valid rabies vaccination, a qualifying titer sampled at least 90 days before certificate issue, and the required EU entry document. Ask the Swedish/EU authority whether a satisfactory pre-departure test qualifies for the exception, including continuity conditions. Commission rule.

Will my pet be quarantined on arrival in Thailand?

For the reviewed USA-origin route, the importer presents the animal and original documents for AQS inspection and the source says Forms R-6 and R-7 are issued there. It does not state a dependable release time or detention outcome for every route. Ask the responsible AQS what applies to the actual origin and itinerary. Arrival source and scope.

Are there direct flights from Stockholm with a pet?

This page does not maintain a verified live route schedule. Ask the operating airline to confirm the itinerary, aircraft, pet mode and space before payment; see our airline pet policies guide.

Which airport is better for Pattaya — BKK or U-Tapao?

Suvarnabhumi is documented in the reviewed sources. Those sources do not establish a U-Tapao pet-import AQS, so use U-Tapao only after written DLD confirmation.

What should I do after reaching Pattaya?

Confirm housing, save a local vet, keep every AQS document and ask a veterinarian about heat and parasite prevention for the individual animal.

Will I need a titer test later?

That depends on the next destination. UK and EU routes can require a titer and wait. Australia’s standard route from a non-approved origin requires an approved country first; do not assume a test performed in Thailand qualifies.
