Documents and timing
- Choose the arrival port and obtain its current import conditions. DLD’s approval manual (September 2023 edition) describes an R.1/1 application at least seven working days before import and R.6 approval valid for 60 days.
- Match your animal’s identity and health documents to the origin-specific conditions. The Thai consular US-origin guide lists microchip evidence and English vaccination records; use the country guides for your origin.
- Get the operating airline’s acceptance for your animal, crate, aircraft and every segment. A government approval is a different decision.
- At BKK, follow AOT’s pet-arrival procedure through AQS and Customs’ declaration channel. Keep the issued documents.

Resolve the origin before booking
The DLD approval manual and US-origin consular guide have different scopes. Do not combine the shortest deadlines across sources. Keep the entry station’s written instructions with the onward pet-transfer plan.

Frequently asked
Do I need an import approval?
DLD publishes an advance approval process. Use the entry approval manual and the conditions of the station receiving your animal.
Is 500 baht the total cost?
It is the published R.7 licence fee for each dog or cat, not the veterinary, airline, customs or transport bill. DLD fee source.
Does a Thai permit confirm airline acceptance?
Keep the carrier’s acceptance separate. Check the airline policy comparison and the operating carrier’s current terms.
