Before booking, confirm current requirements with the Thai DLD, your airline and the destination-country authority.

The regulated claims and authority links cited on this page were checked on 1 August 2026. Export rules — Thai DLD procedures, destination-country requirements and airline policies — change without notice. Use this as orientation, then confirm every current requirement with the DLD and the destination country's authority before booking.
The timeline — work backwards from your flight
For a new titer, count back from certificate issue. For the flight, establish where the pet first enters the EU before choosing the final Danish connection.
| When | Step | Authority |
|---|---|---|
| Month 1 (if no valid titer yet) | Rabies vaccination current; rabies titer test sample ≥30 days after primary vaccination or within a current valid series; approved lab | Thai vet + EU-approved lab |
| At least 90 days after sampling | Earliest issue date for the animal health certificate under the checked non-listed-third-country route | EU Regulation 2026/131 framework |
| 6–8 weeks before flight | Book pet on a route entering via a designated traveller point of entry | Airline / agent |
| As the responsible AQS directs | File Thai DLD form R1/1 with the destination requirements as the responsible AQS directs; the reviewed procedure gives no universal 15-day deadline | DLD AQS |
| Within 10 days of entry | For the certificate route: EU animal health certificate completed and endorsed by the Thai competent authority. A qualifying return passport is a separate case, explained below. | DLD + official vet |
| Destination arrival | Present documents at designated entry point; customs / veterinary identity check | Border authority |

What Denmark / the EU requires from Thailand
| Arrival or document | Danish requirement |
|---|---|
| Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup | Designated traveller entry point for pets from outside the EU. |
| Billund Airport | Also a designated traveller entry point. |
| Aalborg Airport | Designation is limited to dogs and cats. |
| Connecting through another EU country | The pet must be checked at the designated entry point in that first EU country. |
| Certificate and declaration | The authority’s dog guide and cat and ferret guide link Danish/English models. The Thai official veterinarian issues the certificate, or the competent authority endorses an authorised vet’s certificate. |
Danish entry-point guidance, checked 8 September 2026. Designation does not establish a direct flight or pet space. Denmark itself has no special Echinococcus treatment requirement.
For a pet habitually resident in the EU, a satisfactory test completed and recorded in its passport before leaving can remove the 90-day wait. Rabies vaccination must remain continuously valid. An existing test alone does not establish this return exception. Commission source.
Using an EU-issued passport? An EU-resident owner returning after a short stay may use it if valid, with the required rabies and titer entries completed before leaving. It does not cover an owner now resident in Thailand, who needs an animal health certificate even when moving back. First imports use the certificate route. Other recognised passport frameworks need the receiving authority’s instructions. Thai export requirements still apply. Commission passport guidance (checked 8 September 2026).
The Thai export side (DLD)
Parallel Thai requirements:
| Thai-side document | Notes |
|---|---|
| Export application (form R1/1) | Ask the responsible departure-port AQS how and when to file. The reviewed current procedure establishes no universal email channel or 15-day deadline. |
| Destination import rules | Attach the destination authority’s import requirements (NOC, import licence, SPSIC, etc.) so the Thai health certificate matches. |
| Identification, vaccinations and tests | Carry the records required by the destination and the responsible AQS. |
| Mandatory health examination | DLD requires examination no more than 2–3 days before travel. If compliant, the station issues R9 and the health certificate. DLD source. |
See export process.
Common mistakes on this corridor
- Starting with Thailand only — destination import permits and tests are usually the long pole.
- Expired vaccinations — a lapsed rabies shot can void import clearance.
- Microchip mismatch across Thai export papers and destination import forms.
- Missing the final DLD examination — it must occur no more than 2–3 days before travel.
- Relying on an old passport without checking eligibility — first imports need the certificate route; a return-passport exception has specific conditions.
- Entering via a non-designated point — each country lists approved entry points for pets from third countries.
If you came the other way, see our guide to From Denmark (import).
Departing from Pattaya — confirm the port and DLD sequence
Ask the AQS responsible for the departure port how and when to file R1/1. The reviewed DLD procedure does not establish a universal email intake, 15-day deadline or separate three-day flight-confirmation rule. It requires the animal’s health examination no more than 2–3 days before travel; if compliant, the station issues R9 and the health certificate. DLD procedure. The reviewed DLD map does not list a U-Tapao/Rayong airport AQS, so obtain written DLD confirmation before routing there. DLD AQS map.
Using an agent is optional
An agent cannot change government or airline rules. If you request assistance, obtain an itemised scope and verify each regulated requirement directly with the authority. PattayaPets has not independently measured agents’ prices, error rates or outcomes.

Frequently asked
Can the standard titer timing be avoided for Denmark?
A pet habitually resident in the EU can qualify when its passport records a satisfactory test completed before leaving and rabies cover stays continuous. Otherwise sampling must be at least 90 days before certificate issue. Commission source.
Who should I check the current rules with?
The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration for the destination side, and the Thai DLD for the export side. Check both before booking, as rules change.
Is the EU pet passport enough from Thailand?
An EU-issued passport works only for a qualifying return after a short stay: the owner must remain EU-resident and the valid passport must show the required rabies and titer entries made before EU departure. First imports and owners in Thailand relying on an EU-issued passport need an animal health certificate. Check other recognised passports with the receiving authority. Thai export papers remain necessary.
How long does the whole move take?
Plan several months if the titer test still has to be done from Pattaya.
Which Danish airports can a dog or cat enter through?
The Danish authority lists Copenhagen Kastrup, Billund and Aalborg; Aalborg is limited to dogs and cats. Airline pet acceptance is separate. If the pet enters the EU elsewhere first, arrange its check there. See the EU guide for the shared document rules.
Can I fly my pet out of U-Tapao?
The reviewed DLD map does not list a U-Tapao/Rayong airport AQS. That is a verification gap, not proof that no later service exists; obtain written DLD confirmation before booking.
How should I plan the transfer to the departure airport?
Use a vehicle that accepts the animal and crate, confirm the airline’s check-in cut-off and leave route-specific contingency time.
Should I stay near the departure airport?
Decide from the confirmed examination appointment, airline check-in time and road conditions. This guide has no evidence for a universal recommendation.
