Bringing a pet to Thailand from Singapore

Singapore is a rabies-free country with a clear export process. The Thai import side is standard; the return journey is where the rules tighten.

Rules change — verify before you act

This guide was last reviewed in May 2026. Thailand's Department of Livestock Development, airlines and origin-country authorities change their rules without notice. Treat this as orientation, then confirm every current requirement with the DLD, your airline and your origin-country authority before you book or travel.

The Singapore side of the paperwork

Follow the standard steps — microchip, rabies and the other vaccinations, the health certificate and the DLD import permit. For export from Singapore, your vet completes the export health certificate through the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS). Singapore’s export requirements are well documented; book AVS endorsement and any pre-export steps in good time.

Planning the return to Singapore

Singapore protects its rabies-free status strictly. Bringing a pet back from Thailand — which is not rabies-free — requires a valid rabies vaccination, a rabies titer test from an approved laboratory, an import licence from AVS and often a quarantine or home-isolation period on arrival. If there is any chance of returning, study AVS’s current import requirements before you leave — not after.

See our guide to To Singapore (export) for the full export paperwork.

Frequently asked

Is it hard to export a pet from Singapore?

The export side is straightforward if you follow AVS's published steps and use an experienced vet. The difficulty is the return journey from Thailand, not the departure from Singapore.

What does Singapore require for the return?

A rabies vaccination, a rabies titer test, an AVS import licence and compliance with Singapore's post-arrival rules. Confirm the current detail with AVS before you travel.
